It's hard to pinpoint exactly what happens in my brain sometimes, but it takes a while for some new concepts to gel.
Over the holidays, the newest issue of Professional Artist encouraged us to write our 'annual report': to evaluate what worked, what didn't work, what we learned, and what we still haven't done. The theme that came up in my list the most was community, an ironic trope as our online community is going through some growing pains right now. Community these days means finding a 'tribe,' getting on social media unafraid of the internet's trolls and troglodytes, and meeting people in a completely new way enabled by technology. It also means putting yourself out there in a vulnerable way. The other side of that, for me, was Lisa Congdon's CreativeLive class on developing your art business. Besides stressing the importance of community, she made blogging sound easy in a way that hadn't occurred to me before. So I got inspired to recreate this blog in the hopes that I'll be able to share what I'm doing every day--or nearly every day--with you. It won't always be something you want to read or care about. It's not for making money. It's for my online identity and I have a broad and disparate interest set. But, if you care about or come to care about me, then it'll have what you need on it. Please be a voice. Please be a reader. And thank you. |
